Who I learn from
These are the educators and organizations, local and global, that I follow and learn alongside to keep growing as a teacher who uses technology well.
ISTE
The International Society for Technology in Education publishes the ISTE Standards for Educators and Students and hosts the annual ISTELive conference.
Why I follow: the ISTE Standards are the framework for this portfolio, and ISTE's community is full of ideas for teaching with technology.
iste.org →Common Sense Education
Free digital citizenship lessons, teacher training, and privacy ratings for the apps and websites used in classrooms.
Why I follow: I use their privacy evaluations to check apps before bringing them to my students, and their lessons to teach safe and responsible internet use.
commonsense.org/education →Edutopia
The George Lucas Educational Foundation's site for research-backed classroom strategies, shared through articles and videos by working teachers.
Why I follow: practical ideas I can try in my classroom the next day, especially for engagement and differentiation.
edutopia.org →NSTA
The National Science Teaching Association supports science and STEM teachers with lessons, journals, and professional learning.
Why I follow: I teach at a girls STEM school, and NSTA helps me bring hands-on science and engineering into my 4th and 5th grade class.
nsta.org →My school colleagues & PLC
The teachers I meet with weekly in our Professional Learning Community to look at data, plan lessons together, and share new technology.
Why I follow: the colleagues down the hall are my most immediate source of feedback and new ideas.
